The Financial Intermediation Research Society (FIRS) is pleased to announce that its next conference will be held in Vancouver, on June 4-6, 2021. You are invited to submit papers to be considered for presentation. Theory and empirical papers in all areas of finance are welcome. It is anticipated that most participants will be from universities, central banks, regulatory agencies, and international financial organizations.
We recognize the potential threat to the physical conference posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Please rest assured that the health and well-being of our membership is our primary concern. We will only have the physical conference if it can be held safely. If it cannot be so, we will hold it virtually. We commit to holding the 2021 conference in one safe platform or another.
Regular Paper Submissions:
- Deadline: November 1, 2020.
- Submission fee: $50.

- Authors will be notified of the committee’s decision by early February 2021.
The conference will commence in the afternoon on Friday, June 4, 2021, and continue with full days of sessions on Saturday and Sunday, June 5 and 6, 2021. For those interested, there will also be a buffet lunch on June 4 before the sessions. The conference venue is the Hyatt Regency Vancouver, http://www.hyattregencyvancouver.com. It is located downtown, steps away from the harbor, the tram from the airport, and many sights and things to do, including seaplane rides. Other attractions, such as a world-class aquarium, are also within reach.

On the evening of Saturday, June 5, a conference dinner will take place at Grouse Mountain ski resort. We will eat, drink, and watch the sunset over the Pacific Ocean from a mountain top that is reached using enclosed ski gondolas. You take a brief virtual tour of the mountain at: Link

PhD Job-Candidate Session:
As in past years, the 2021 FIRS Conference will hold a special session for PhD students planning to go on the job market during the 2021/2022 academic year. Each paper will be discussed by a seasoned researcher in a session open to all FIRS participants. Student nominees must submit a solo-authored draft of their job-market paper, along with an advisor’s letter of support. All fields in finance will be considered. Conference fees will be waived for students whose papers are accepted for the special session, and FIRS will reimburse these students up to $1,000 to cover travel and hotel expenses.Starting in 2021, the Journal of Financial Intermediation will be sponsoring a $5,000 JFI/FIRS Award for the conference’s best paper by a Ph.D. student. The award-winning paper will be selected jointly by the Board of the Financial Intermediation Research Society and the Editorial Board of the Journal of Financial Intermediation. The award will be announced and presented as part of a special event at the conference.
