Description:

Emerging markets are navigating a turbulent global landscape marked by uncertainty, inflation risks, and a constrained policy space after recent shocks. At the same time, they are becoming central to global economic dynamics and policy innovation.

The 5th Workshop on Macroeconomic Policy in Emerging Markets invites submissions addressing current policy challenges, innovative responses, and new approaches to macroeconomic management in these economies. With a focus on emerging economies, areas of interest for the conference include, but are not limited to:

  • New data and new methods for policy making
  • Conventional and unconventional monetary policies
  • Drivers of business cycle fluctuations and growth
  • Effects of policy spillovers from advanced economies
  • Fiscal and monetary policy coordination
  • Debt sustainability and consolidation
  • Capital flow management, FX intervention, and macroprudential policies
  • Exchange rate determination
  • Policy credibility and expectation formation
  • Distributional effects of policymaking
  • Reconfiguration of global trade and the role of emerging economies

The event will take place at the University of Pretoria in Pretoria, South Africa from 14 – 15 January, 2027. 

The conference is organised with the support of the South African Reserve Bank, the Banco Central de Chile, and the Asia School of Business.

1. Submission deadline: Sunday, 15 September 2026 (18:00 GMT).
2. Funding: Travel and accommodation for academic speakers will be covered in line with CEPR travel guidelinesOnly requests for funding made at the time of submission will be considered.
3. Submission and presentation: For co-authored papers, the submitting author is expected to present. If the submitting author is unable to attend, the submission will be considered withdrawn.
