The Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB) is organizing a conference jointly with OMFIF (Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum) titled Financial Stability Analysis: new challenges and focuses. The conference will take place on Thursday-Friday, May 26-27, 2022, both online and in a physical form in Budapest, Hungary. Amidst the fast-devolving risk landscape and uncertainties of the post-pandemic economics, it is as important as ever to provide the public and policymakers with reliable and up-to-date financial stability risk assessments. To facilitate a dialogue between researchers and regulatory practitioners, thematic discussions are organized covering such current issues as the implications of the pandemic on systemic risk analysis, the financial stability aspects of the digital transformation in the financial system, the challenges of technological advances in risk analytics for the regulators, and the potential of central bank digital currencies. The conference’s keynote speaker will be Mr Tobias Adrian, the Financial Counsellor and Director of the IMF’s Monetary and Capital Markets Department.
Moreover, related to the two topics below, the MNB invites submissions of both theoretical and empirical papers which could be instructive for risk analysis and policy making as well:
- Recent advances in stress testing, contagion analysis and their potential for the calibration of macroprudential instruments, which may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• enhanced quantification of risks from rising interconnectedness of the financial system (contagion),
• joint stress testing of banks and non-banks (system-wide stress testing),
• holistic approaches to macroprudential stress testing,
• and their application to the calibration of macroprudential policy measures.- Sustainable finance and the implications of climate change in financial risk analysis, which may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• exploring the theoretical transmission channels between climate vulnerabilities and the financial
system, presenting empirical findings on the workings of such interactions,
• integrating climate-related risks into financial modelling, stress testing and the development of risk indicators,
• understanding the role of policies relevant for prudential authorities in mitigating climate change related risks,
• opportunities and risks of sustainable finance during the green transition, the possible engagements of prudential authorities.
