The European University Institute and the Bank Policy Institute invite the submission of papers for the 2026 Research Conference on Banking Regulation.

The purpose of the conference is to bring together academics, market participants, and policymakers to discuss the latest research on regulatory design and effectiveness.

We welcome empirical, theoretical, and policy-oriented papers on all aspects of bank regulation, particularly those with a focus on the European market and cross-border issues. We would especially welcome papers exploring:

  • The competitiveness of European banks and prospects for the savings and investment union.
  • Opportunities and challenges for regulatory simplification in Europe.
  • The consequences of regulatory fragmentation across jurisdictions for financial stability, cross-border cooperation and global financial markets.
  • The implications of the emergence of stablecoins (or other cryptocurrencies) for European banks, the euro and financial stability.
