Description:
MIT’s Golub Center for Finance and Policy (GCFP) is inviting paper
submissions for its 13th annual conference, which this year is on the theme
of financial regulation in an era of innovation and disruption. The
proliferation of new financial products and trading platforms, together
with transformational changes in financial market infrastructure, have been
hyper-charged by continuing advances in AI. These developments, and
changing attitudes about the proper role of regulation, have created
pressing new challenges for regulators charged with promoting financial
market stability and protecting investors while at the same time fostering
innovation and growth.
We welcome analyses that can help inform financial policy responses to
these innovations and disruptions, including but not limited to:
 	AI’s impact on financial markets, labor markets, and the economy;
 	investor protection and fair lending;
 	new risks to financial stability;
 	the changing market structure for equities, bonds, and derivatives;
 	the growth of event contracts and prediction markets;
 	the growth of non-bank credit;
 	developments in stablecoins, digital currencies, and payment systems;
 	risks in “safe” assets such as sovereign debt;
 	international coordination and comparisons;
 	and innovations in market architecture and infrastructure.
Both empirical and theoretical papers are welcome, including preliminary
drafts. The conference will be held in-person in Cambridge, MA and streamed
online.
The mission of the MIT GCFP is to serve as a catalyst for innovative,
cross-disciplinary and non-partisan research and educational initiatives
that address the unique challenges facing governments in their role as
financial institutions and as regulators of the financial system.
Each year the MIT GCFP’s annual conference brings together leading
academics, policy makers and practitioners to discuss research and new
developments in a selected area related to one or more of the main research
tracks of the Center:
• Evaluation and Management of Government Financial Institutions
• Regulation of Financial Markets and Institutions
• Risk Measurement and Management in the Public Sector
