Description:

In recent years, FinTech, or financial technologies, have been rapidly developing and reshaping
business practices and the financial services industry. In parallel, emerging technologies, e.g.,
machine learning and big data methods, have also been increasingly applied in the study of
financial economics. Such developments have generated considerable interests in the new and
important research area of FinTech and emerging technologies.
Following the success of the first three FinTech conferences, the Department of Finance in the
Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University and the Georgia FinTech Academy,
together with the Review of Financial Studies will jointly host the fourth annual FinTech
conference. The conference will be held on September 22-23, 2023 at the Buckhead Center of
Georgia State University in Atlanta. The conference is highly selective. We received more than
150 high-quality submissions for each of the past three conferences and 12 papers are selected
each year for the program.
To optimize interactions among researchers, we plan to hold the conference in person.
Nonetheless, we will keep safety in mind and follow the guidance provided by the government
at the time.
We invite submission of theoretical and empirical papers on the frontiers of FinTech and
emerging technologies, but not limited to, the following topics:
– Novel analytic methods: Applications of AI, machine learning, natural language
processing, and other novel analytic methods in research for all areas of financial
economics, including corporate finance, asset pricing, and financial intermediation
– Big data: the use of alternative, unstructured, and big data in financial research
– Digital currencies: CBDCs, stablecoins, and related regulatory and monetary policies
– DeFi and blockchains: Decentralized financing (DeFi), decentralized exchanges, and
other applications of blockchains
